This “bestseller” amongst our walks takes us on different routes across the indigenous rainforest at the foothills of Mt. Meru not far from the Lodge. Usually we can spot Blue Monkeys and rare Black and White Colobus Monkeys at close range. The beauty of the landscape is amazing. The pleasant climate and natural springs in the forest attract a great variety of butterflies and a rich birdlife, such as Ibis, Hornbill or Marabou Storks. The walk of approx. 2.5 hrs can be combined with a visit of the local market in a nearby village on Thursdays and Sundays.

Ten minutes away from Arumeru River Lodge 20 coffee farmers have established a village cooperation that jointly processes their harvest and markets their coffee. The Coffee Walk starts at a missionary church and follows the beautiful banana and coffee fields of the village before it reaches the central coffee processing facility, where the main processes of coffee production are explained. After 2 hours the walk ends at the small coffee roasting facility. Here you can try the coffee right at the place of production. A walk that appeals to all senses.

Get a flavor of the “Real Africa” in the neighborhood of our Lodge. This 2.5 h walk goes a bit beyond the Lodge and Safari car experience. It will take you right into the everyday reality of African life behind the scenes. Be prepared to walk on dusty tracks and pass by burning litter. But also be prepared for people that keep their incredible friendliness and optimism under circumstances that we might consider as hard to bear. Get insights into some grass root initiatives like the Usa River Children Center guided by one of our staff members who lives in that village.
